Each club is focused on one common hobby or activity. For my project, I initiated an exchange between these clubs. I encouraged each club to give another club insight into their activities by offering a beginner‘s workshop of their activity. The video installation shows nine different clubs, posing for a group portrait in the surroundings of another club. In addition, individuals are filmed as they try out the activities of the other club. The clubs are social spaces. But membership also means exclusiveness and excluding non-members. At the touch of a button, a visual realm opens onto your smartphone screen and you become personally connected to a motion picture. Accessible through the QR-Code displayed in the exhibition, once connected with your smartphone, a video begins. Scratch, Yawn, Hum touches upon the spectacles of behavior within a public sphere by reflecting on the inner thoughts of the protagonist, which insists on a staged „reality.“ A black screen produces one sentence after another, addressing you directly, giving commands, asking questions. The narration becomes more and more familiar, the more it interacts with you and your surroundings. Your focus constantly shifts from observing your surroundings to looking down at the words displayed on the screen. They consume three classical German meals arranged on the table in front of them with their look focused on the camera. Images of the four in the given situation are recorded with a video camera portraying each individual separately. Circulating around the table clock-wise, the four are shown again and again, until they have each finished their dishes. As they continue eating whatever it is they are given, they lose control over what they are entering in their bodies as their gaze remains focused on the lense.
